Day 1 cont'd

After a long night of packing and scrambling to get everything ready, we finally hit the hay around 1 am.

The plan is to get up and ready and out of the house by 9am at the latest. This would get us to our first destination around noon. Well needless to say that didn't happen. Both of us struggled a bit to get up and get ready. But we did finally get a nice breakfast and hit the road by 10:15.

The first leg of the trip usually isn't so bad, but between Jennifer(my GPS),  leading me astray more then once, and the constant pleas from the back seat to help with getting things that were dropped, I was pretty happy to get to the Clay Center, by 1pm

The Clay Center in Charleston WV is a nice stop before the long and windy road through the mountains.  We stop, do our best hide our stuff in the car, pay our dues, and sit down for lunch.

We have a few things packed and ready to eat, and we get some salads and sandwiches from the cafe as well.  Overall a nice quick and mostly relaxing lunch.

Then we set out to play. At the start, there were 3 buses full of kids running around the place. The clay center is pretty decent size, but you notice when there are that many young ones running around. Mostly it is not much of an issue, and after about 1 hour they all leave and we have most of the place to ourselves.

The first room is all about sea life. From working the ocean to saving it.

I am not sure if she caught it or it caught her.

Aye Aye matey!
Oh how I wish I could really sail

Attack of the killer over dressed crewman.
Is this right daddy?

Then we hit the water exhibit . This one was pretty cool, you could direct the flow of water to generate electricity, or to create damns. It was nice we had it pretty much to ourselves, and there was very little fighting.....

Once we leave there they are sufficiently wet, so I suggest we take a stroll in the garden area.  We meet their pet turtles and they are able to pet them a bit.

Here little guy, I won't hurt you!

Finally a picture of the full family. I really like the way my hair was 'ported' that day.

Then the boy and I do the Squares game, while the girlies hit the ball pit.   Elijah cleans my clock in the tic-tac-toe game, 1 2 3 and done.

We then hit the art exhibit and look around at some of the cool works.

Finally a room about treasure hunting.

We take a quick potty break and then hit the road. There are a few very tired children after that.

We continue the journey towards Charlotte NC (where our stay for the night will be). The mountains are pretty and are mostly an easy drive.  We make a stop at Applebee's for dinner. Thanks to gyft, hbn and btc, it is a very cheap meal.

We hit the road and the complaining begins to really take shape.  But we still have over 3 hours till we get to the Hyatt, and everyone is pretty sick of being in the car, myself included. So we endure the grumpiness and keep on trucking.

But we do finally get to the hotel around 9:30, unpack and hit the hay.  We try the little chicks in one bed and me and wifey in the other. 45 mins and a few scoldings later, I move in with Stells and Molly and Kris saw logs together.

Sleep time comes quick.
